Laboratory Technician/Manager to Center for Basic and Translational Neuroscience

Division of Cell and Gene Therapy, Center for Basic and Translational Neuroscience (CTN) is looking for a highly motivated Laboratory Technician. 
 
Description of the research team 
Our research group is based at the Center for Basic and Translational Neuroscience – Division of Cell and Gene Therapy. CTN currently has 35 employees and students, divided into two labs, and we expect the Center to expand during the next months. CTN is part of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, and is located at Panum. The Center comprises modern laboratories and excellent facilities within neuroscience. Our research is aimed at defining new strategies for the treatment of neurological diseases that target glial cells dysfunction.

The research focus is on the basic biology of neural precursor cells in the central nervous system, specifically glial progenitors, and their role in several neurological and neuropsychiatric diseases, including myelin disorders (multiple sclerosis, leukodystrophies), Huntington disease, schizophrenia and frontal lobe dementia. Our research is also aimed at defining dysregulatedsignaling pathways within glial progenitors in the context of glial cell tumors.  
 
Work description 
The position of Laboratory Technician/Manager offers the opportunity to work in a highly ambitious multi-disciplinary lab engaged in neuroscience. We are looking for a ‪highly motivated and well-organized person who is able to work independently as a laboratory manager/technician ‪‪‪in a young dynamic international research environment. Our center is newly established and rapidly expanding, and thus we need an adaptable and ambitious candidate to be involved in the daily managing and running of the lab with the opportunity to be exposed to different cutting edge techniques applied in neuroscience, spanning from molecular biology, human ES and IPS cultures, single cell sequencing, cell sorting to in vivo animal transplantation related analysis. The applicant should preferably have expertise in lab management and administration, animal care and breeding, PCR/qPCR, genotyping and histology, and/or cell culture. 
 
The work includes: 
Lab management: 
  • Placement and managing of orders (consumables, glassware, reagents, surgery tools and equipment, etc.) 
  • Obtaining quotations for equipment and consumables 
  • Ensure that the lab complies with KU and government rules and regulations (work environment, chemical safety, GMO, animal research inspectorate, etc.) 
  • Waste disposal (chemical, clinical, sharps, etc.) 
  • Take part of the establishment of an international hub for Glial research at KU including organizing seminars and symposia. 
Experimental conduct 
  • Preparation of solutions for common use (PBS, PFA, cell media etc.) 
  • Genotyping of mice 
  • PCR/qPCR 
  • Histology 
  • Will perform other duties as assigned 
 
Qualifications 
  • Laboratory technician degree or equivalent is required 
  • Documented work experience from high quality academic or industrial laboratories is an advantage 
  • Proven experience in molecular biology is an advantage 
  • Good communication skills in Danish and English, both orally and written. 
 
Start date 
As soon as possible thereafter. 
 
Employment period 
Permanent contract 
 
Terms of salary and employment 
The appointment is in accordance with the joint collective agreement between the Danish Financial Ministry and Public Employee Organizations – the Government Area (OAO-S Joint Agreement) and the organization agreement for HK-laboratory technicians in government service. 
 
The position is full time and will be at the level of salary group 4 with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement. In addition, there is a monthly contribution to a pension fund according to the collective agreement.
