PhD fellow in plant molecular biology and chloroplast engineering

PhD fellow in plant molecular biology and chloroplast engineering
Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences
Faculty of Science
University of Copenhagen

Copenhagen Plant Science Centre (CPSC) at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is seeking a candidate for a 3-year PhD-scholarship commencing 1 December 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences constitutes a stimulating and international research environment. The position will be located at CPSC, a newly established research centre at the University of Copenhagen. The aim of CPSC is to create a cross-disciplinary scientific environment that links plant scientists and advances research from bench to field.

Project description
As PhD fellow located at CPSC you will be driving a DFF funded research project focused on improved engineering of biosynthetic pathways with cytotoxic intermediates into chloroplasts. To achieve this you design novel synthetic, self-tunable modules that allow feedback regulation of critical biosynthetic steps and thereby attenuate the accumulation of toxic intermediates. The aim is to be able to regulate the stoichiometry of key enzymatic components within synthetic metabolons and thereby optimize metabolite channeling efficiency, reduce potential cytotoxic intermediates or byproducts and eventually improve product yields in a sustainable manner.

The project will be embedded in a highly competitive, stimulating and international research environment. Short research stays within laboratories of our collaborators inside or outside Denmark are envisioned.

Principal supervisor is Associate Professor Mathias Pribil, Email: pribil@plen.ku.dk; telephone:  +4535337774.
