Postdoc in Dairy Process Technology

The Department of Food Science, Faculty of Science at the University of Copenhagen is offering a Postdoc position in collaboration with dairy industry for a period of 24 months commencing September 1st 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Project description 
The PostDoc project is related to professorship in Dairy Process technology at University of Copenhagen and more specifically the research  “Platform for Novel Gentle Processing and Shelf-life Intelligence” that is a dynamic industrial multidisciplinary environment supported by Danish Dairy Research Foundation.  
The research aims to demonstrate the technical feasibility and robustness of non-thermal processing as alternative to thermal pasteurisation and solving bottlenecks to ensure milk safety during storage.  The work will combine knowledge about non-thermal technologies and milk functionality and structure. 
The ideal candidate has the following competences and skills: 
  • Expertise in dairy technology or non-thermal processing 
  • Expertise in microbiology or structure and functionality characterisation  
  • Experience in understanding the effects of processing on product properties 
  • Experience in performing experiments across scales (lab, pilot, full-scale)  
  • PhD degree in Food Engineering or Technology or related fields 
Moreover, good interpersonal and communicative skills required for team work across disciplines and with industry partners are necessary, ability to work independently and deliver on project activities within deadlines. 
The postdoc’s duties will include research within the above field as well as teaching and management of the pilot plant to a limited extent.

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
