Research Assistant in Plant Transport Processes at DynaMo Center, Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, University of Copenhagen

A 12-month position as Research Assistant is vacant at the DynaMo Center, a Center of Excellence within plant biology funded by the Danish National Research Foundation. The Center is hosted by the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen and located at Thorvaldsensvej 40, 1871 Frederiksberg C, Denmark.
The position commences 1 September 2017 or at a date thereafter of mutual agreement.
Project description
At DynaMo Center ( we take a pathway-centric approach to discover universal principles that enables multi-cellular organisms to coordinate responses to developmental and external signals to optimize fitness. Our organism of choice is the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana and its defense compounds the glucosinolates. This is a unique systems biology model that offers extensive ‘omics databases, bioinformatics tools, natural variation and large mutant collections.
In this specific project our goal is to identify the full transporter complement of glucosinolates. This will enable us to characterize all critical barriers for these important defense compounds, including identification of transporters essential for e.g. seed accumulation, in intra- and interleaf distribution and for exudation into the rhizosphere.
Job description
We are currently looking for a Research Assistant to assist us in our work aimed at identifying the glucosinolate transporter complement. The person will have a great opportunity to advance his/her basic research skills. The tasks will be diverse and include:
- Screening for transporter mutants in planta and in yeast
- Cloning of candidate transporters for expression in multiple heterologous hosts (plants, yeast, Xenopus).
- Biochemical characterization of transporters
- Genotyping of mutants
